I study insect biodiversity, morphology, and mechanics. My mission is to document, discover, and protect insect species across the planet, and to understand the myriad of ways evolution has molded their body plan to fit different mechanical needs – be it flight, running, or singing. In an era of rapid biodiversity loss, my research is particularly relevant in documenting and preserving the book of life for generations to come. My ongoing postdoctoral research investigates the mechanics and evolution of sound producing organs in cicadas and their allies (Hemiptera). Using state-of-the-art techniques such as synchrotron X-ray microtomography, I study the sound-producing organs of both living hemipterans as well as their extinct relatives fossilised in amber, which will provide invaluable insights on the evolution of acoustic communication as a whole - including our own. I have taught animal anatomy, diversity, physiology, field techniques, and arthropod identification in all undergraduate levels at the University of Oxford and abroad.

Jani and his research group use state-of-the-art structural tools such as native mass spectrometry, cryo-electron microscopy and X-ray crystallography to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of large protein machineries involved in transport across biological membranes. Jani studied chemical sciences at Pondicherry University, India and moved to Iowa State University for his doctoral studies. He then worked in Prof. Dame Carol Robinson's group at the University of Oxford as a postdoctoral research associate. He was awarded a Royal Society University Research Fellowship in 2021 to set up his own research group..

After a long and difficult year, and with much uncertainty ahead, Wolfson College Choir is pleased to present an evening of choral music for home and the holidays. With lush songs on the theme of homecoming, birdsong, and winter - alongside Christmas classics - this evening will bring back the Wolfson tradition of heralding a new year with song and joy.

Bring along your santa hats and festive spirit to the Leonard Wolfson Audiotorium on Sunday December 5th, 5 pm to hear us serenade you!

A contribution for AMREF will be taken at the end of the concert, with mince pies provided outside after the concert. We kindly request audience members wear masks unless exempt.
