Wolfson College is proud to launch its first official handcrafted gin this week.

Wolfson’s very own BarCo have been working closely with Charlgrove Distillery in Oxford to produce a unique gin for the College called Spirit Wolf, which is a rose and saffron gin.

We started the process of making the gin over a year ago,” says Rob Tildesey from BarCo. We were looking to make a product which would be high quality and represent the college so we approached Chalgrove Distillery who had recently won some major awards for their gins. They produced 5 sample gins for us, with the brief being for a rose gin, taking inspiration from the roses that grow in the Wolfson grounds.

A tasting session was held and the most popular by far was the Rose and saffron gin. We then held competitions to design the name and logo for the gin and the winning logo was designed by Common Room member Malina Graf and the gin is called Spirit Wolf. I am really pleased with how the whole project has turned out and think we have a product here that will serve the college well for many years to come.

Wolfson college is the first Oxford college to have a gin created, but there are now other colleges following suit. The initial first edition set is limited and they already had a large number of pre-orders.

The official launch Spirit Wolf Gin will be on 8th December at 8pm in the Hall. Attendees will be able to buy a gin and tonic there (the gin will also be on sale in the bar from then on), and those who wish to can also purchase full bottles of the gin for yourself or as a perfect Christmas gift for all gin fans.

If you wish to pre-order a bottle of the special first edition batch, please click here to make your reservation.
