Daniel Florentin receives Huber Dissertation Prize

Florentin completed his MSc in ‘Water Science, Policy and Management', and wrote his dissertation on ‘Insights into public experiences in Argentinian water sector after the end of the PPP-era.  Examples from Buenos Aires and the province of Santa Fe'. He will be presenting his findings at the Annual Meeting of American Geographers in New York early next year, another indication of the strength of his work.

AMREF success in combating trachoma in Kenya

Trachoma is the leading cause of preventable blindness worldwide, with an estimated six million adults having lost their vision to trachoma and 84 million people affected by the infection worldwide.

But Trachoma is both treatable and preventable, by promoting safe hygiene and sanitation practices, using antibiotic eye ointment, or a simple operation for more complex cases to reverse the scarring and visual damage.

Rowers win silverware in Royal Regatta

The Wolfson women's eight won the 350m sprint in a competitive final against Oxford Academicals, on Saturday 20th August. The Wolfson men then won the IM3 eight event against Reading RC, on the same day.

A final congratulations and commiserations to the women's four who won the semi-final against Curlew RC on Sunday 21st August, but got knocked out in the final by the Linacre IV.

Mehrnoosh Sadrzadeh awarded Career Acceleration Fellowship

The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council's (EPSRC), Career Acceleration Fellowships are highly sought after, and Sadrzadeh was one of approximately 450 applicants who applied for the 25 prestigious awards.

Mehrnoosh Sadrzadeh will be working with three project partners the Universities of Utrecht and Cambridge, and Google.

Hermione Lee accepts Roth's Man Booker Prize

Hermione Lee, President of Wolfson College, academic and author, is the dedicatee of Roth's most recent book Nemesis, and described Roth as “the great literary adventurer, performer, and self-transformer of this and the last century. He has been one of the giants of American fiction for over fifty years, with a following across the world, and the award of the International Man Booker for his life's work is a welcome recognition of his audacity, energy, imaginative courage, comic bravura and historical seriousness."
