Research Fellow heads R&D for state-of-the-art image detection

Dr Moldovan will be responsible for the Research and Development of high-performance scientific imaging detectors capable of studying structures and processes at the atomic level.

Initially focused for use in electron microscopy, the detectors also have potential applications for X-rays, other microscopy techniques, and machine vision. Oxford Imaging Detectors' instruments provide significant advantages over current technology, exceeding the current state-of-the-art in speed, contrast, efficiency and resolution.

Wolfsonians recognised in New Year Honours

John Buchanan was a Research Fellow at Wolfson from 1968-70, and has been knighted for services to industry.

Sir John is the chairman of global medical technology company Smith & Nephew and is also heavily involved in a number of charitable organisations. He said it was an honour to receive the recognition, particularly in his adopted home country. "I feel quite privileged. I have been very lucky dealing with the business sector and the voluntary sector and I'm just very honoured to receive this."

Wolfson conference hosts Council of Europe Secretary General

The conference, entitled, The Evolution of International Norms & Norm Entrepreneurship: The Council of Europe in Comparative Perspective, was convened by Wolfson Fellow Professor Anne Deighton and Dr Gwendolyn Sasse from the Department of Politics at Oxford University and co-sponsored by Wolfson College and the Foundation for Law, Justice and Society, among others.

McWilliam overcame writer's block following a period of near-blindness brought on by the rare illness blepharospasm to write the Hawthornden Prize-winning memoir What to Look for in Winter. Wolfson College President and OCLW Director Hermione Lee, in her introduction to the lecture, described her voice as "subtle, original and sharp", and her memoir as remarkable for its candour and lack of sef-pity, "told with eloquence, truthfulness and comic brio".

New Research Cluster in Law, Justice and Society launches at Wolfson
