On the 27th October, the Fournier Piano Trio performed an introductory concert to celebrate their newly-established association with Wolfson College. As 2011 winners of both 2nd Prize and Audience Prize at the 6th Trondheim International Chamber Music Competition, the Fournier Trio is rapidly emerging as one of the UK’s leading young piano trios, and Wolfson College is honoured to have an association with these flourishing musicians.

The concert was a phenomenal success. Professor Stephen Moorbath reported ‘the quality of the performance as so natural, unforced, spontaneous and direct – combined with exquisite phrasing – that it almost sounded as if the composer himself was dictating the music directly to the listener, with minimal intervention.’

Ruth Bush, Chair of Wolfson Music Society, also said, ‘it was such a treat to hear chamber musicians of this calibre in College. I particularly enjoyed the verve with which they played Schubert's Trio after the precision of Mozart. The Fournier Trio are a wonderful addition to Wolfson's vibrant musical life. As well as their further recitals, we plan to organise a workshop or masterclass with student musicians over the next two years, with hope that a little of their consummate skill might rub off on us!’

From everyone at the College, we welcome the Fournier Trio into the Wolfson community, thank them for a wonderful concert, and look forward to their future performances.
