Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

Eight years after the disastrous accident at the Fukushima nuclear plant in Japan, this lecture will elaborate on how the clean-up operation has gone, what the Japanese attitudes to nuclear power are nowadays, and what energy mix is right for a resource-poor economic superpower. Mr Hirose, who has worked for the Tokyo Electric Power Company for four decades, will set out his views and take all questions about Japan's current Energy Policy.

In this session we will draw together researchers and clinicians who have an interest in modulating the ways that fractured bones heal. Attendees are looking at this issue from different spheres of basic and clinical science and the cluster aims to identify areas of common interest and novel collaboration. Hosted by the oxford trauma research group the session will look to raise awareness of the multi faceted possibilities to augment bone healing, which in turn might reduce the pain and disability associate with sustaining a fractured bone and return patients to function earlier.

The Mental Health Awareness Week is organised by the Mental Health Foundation and focuses on a major issue each year. The theme this year is Body Image - a term that can be used to describe how we think and feel about our bodies.

With various events, including a Pilates taster session and a nature walk with Jack the Welfare dog, the Welfare team hopes to raise awareness of mental health and to promote good mental wellbeing practises.

The event is BSL interpreted. This workshop is a cross-disciplinary exploration of the relationships between gesture and language, and the role of signifying embodied movements more broadly, in culturally Tibetan and related linguistic areas of the Himalayas. We consider: 1. How Tibetan repertoires of gesturing, speaking and signing are related to patterns of visual and bodily communication in everyday life and other domains; 2. The use of gesture, specifically, and how it relates to other forms and functions of speech and text, dance and Buddhist debate. How do such forms of expression create social relations, distinct ways of being and forms of knowledge? Furthermore, without losing sight of the wider social processes and political history of the region, we consider affordances of visual-gestural modality for communicative purposes, and how they are modified to accommodate diverse sets of meanings and recreate asymmetrical relations.

The Wolfson College Welfare Team is organising a 'walk-about' the college as a means of assessing the extent to which Wolfson's buildings and infrastructure are truly welcoming for students and staff with various disabilities. We encourage all common room members particularly those with disabilities or special knowledge and experience with accessibility issues in the College to join us for this event. For this event we will convene at the Lodge, and make our way through different parts of the college to try and identify areas where there is a scope for improvement.

This event also hopes to create greater awareness about the challenges faced by students and staff with disabilities, and to foster a sense of solidity within the College.

For further queries and/or suggestions, please contact the Welfare Officers (welfare@wolfson.ox.ac.uk).
