The exhibition displays Research photos (magnified as posters) taken by Dr. Drăghici-Vasilescu during her field work in Roman villas and houses in Great Britain and Ravenna.

It also shows copies of Roman mosaics (Western and Eastern/Byzantine) made by Elena Ene Drăghici-Vasilescu and Lawrence Payne.


 

A series of lectures about mosaics are given by Elena Drăghici-Vasilescu every Monday in Levett Room, Wolfson College between 2 and 3 pm. Their topics are as follows:

22nd January: Introduction to mosaics: how are they made? Where? By whom?
29th January: Mosaics in Ravenna I
5th February:  Mosaics in Venice
12th February: Mosaics in Ravenna II and in Classe
19th February: Mosaics in Chedworth Roman villa, Cotswolds, UK, I
26th February: Mosaics in Chedworth Roman villa, Cotswolds II
4th March:        Mosaics in the Roman town house in Dorchester, Dorset, 
11th March:      Mosaics in the Roman villa at North Leigh, Oxfordshire, UK
18th March:      Workshops that produced mosaics in the Middle Ages
25th March:      Workshops that produced mosaics today    
1st April:           Contemporary preoccupations with mosaics

The Lecturer is flexible concerning the topics as the discussions will also proceed in accordance to questions and proposals from the audience.

'Christian Meditation in a Secular Age: Rediscovering faith and belief' The main talk at 7pm in the Auditorium will be preceded at 5.30 pm by informal conversation and questions – everyone is welcome but booking is essential for both parts of the evening! Laurence Freeman is Director of the World Community of Christian Meditation - a 'monastery without walls' - He is a highly distinguished person who has had dialogues with leading world figures, including the Dalai Lama and is an extremely engaging speaker.
