Wolfson College, together with the Welfare officers, presents a panel discussion on the historical context of Black Lives Matter (BLM) in the UK. What is the history of Black individuals and communities in this country? And how do we use this deep and fascinating history of Black lives--with all their achievements and struggles--to move forward with the BLM in the future? Dr. Nayanika Mathur discusses these questions with Britain's leading experts on the history of the Black experience in the UK: Prof. Olivette Otele and Prof. Hakim Adi.

This panel discussion is a part of a series of events arranged by the Wolfson Welfare Team and the BAME representative to celebrate Black History Month at Wolfson. Please RSVP for the event using the link for the event. We encourage the audience to participate and ask questions during the live online event on the Shindig website. We will also broadcast the event live on the College's YouTube channel where it can be watched later as well. Click here to watch on YouTube.

Anna Caballe Cooks up a Storm in the Lab

Submitted by olamalu on

For almost two years Dr. Anna Caballe has used molecular biology and biochemistry to study a cellular component, called the centrosome. Centrosomes are small organelles within cells that help coordinate correct separation of our chromosomes during cell division: the live imaging below displays a dividing early Drosophila (fruit fly) embryo, showing two fluorescently labelled cellular structures: microtubules in red, and centrioles, the core bit of centrosomes, in green.

Message from the President

It is a great honour to have been elected President of Wolfson. The college is one of the most distinctive in Oxford: a graduate college, exceptionally international in both make-up and outlook; a college born in the 1960s, committed to egalitarianism; and a college which over the last ten years has made extraordinary strides towards an interdisciplinary approach to knowledge, based on the insight that great academics think and react across disciplines rather than in silos.

Imagining the Divine: Exhibition

Submitted by olamalu on

A new exhibition, Imagining the Divine: Art and the Rise of World Religions, opened at the Ashmolean Museum on 19 October 2017, curated by JaÅ› Elsner and Stefanie Lenk with the full participation of the Empires of Faith team.
The exhibition is the result of new collaborative research produced by members of the Empire of Faith team at Wolfson College and the British Museum, contributed to by leading scholars, showing the fundamental importance of imagery in the development and explanation of religious ideas.

Season's Greetings

Submitted by olamalu on
Wolfson College always celebrates the festive season by putting up a tree in Berlin Quad. It takes teamwork, as well as magic potion to raise the tree in a matter of seconds, as you can see in our seasonal video! We offer you warm wishes, and thanks as we spend our first Christmas and New Year at Oxford. - From Tim and Sara Hitchens

Supporting Creativity at Wolfson

When friends ask about my life at Wolfson, I tell them about the sunny office overlooking a garden; the College's elegant modernist architecture and many rural vistas; exciting, active minds you meet at meals and special events; and most of all the peace and quiet in which one can work, a real boon for any artist. One mate replied “the place sounds like a Japanese mountaintop” and I guess, for me, it is.
