Dr Chihab has been appointed the Associate Professorship in Visual Anthropology, following in the footsteps of late Professor Marcus Banks.

Dr Chihab studied for his DPhil in Anthropology at Wolfson under Marcus Banks. His doctoral research consisted of an ethnographic study of the Egyptian film industry, with particular attention to labour dynamics, production practices, and the impact of digital technologies of filmmaking. His current project combines historical and ethnographic methods to examine everyday bureaucratic practices of state legitimation at the Ministry of Culture in Egypt.

The role of Associate Professor is the main academic career grade at Oxford with a focus on research and teaching. The appointee will also automatically be a Governing Body Fellow of Wolfson.
