"To the Volcano and other stories" tracks lives across continents from the perspective of the southern hemisphere. An African student in England longs for her desert home; a shy Argentinian travel agent agonizes about joining her boyfriend in New York, a soldier is pursued by his past.

Elleke Boehmer is Professor of World Literature in English at the University of Oxford, and a founding figure in the field of postcolonial literature. In 2019 her short story "Supermarket Love" was commended as one of three for the Australian Book Review's Elizabeth Jolley short story award.
