Wolfson College is pleased to announce the establishment of the Margit Pengelly Scholarship in support of research into the diagnosis and treatment of ovarian cancer.

The award has been established thanks to the generosity of the family and friends of Margit Pengelly née Kail (1965-2022) in honour of her life. The announcement of this gift comes on what would have been Margit’s 58th birthday.

Margit was a stalwart of administration at Wolfson College over a ten-year period, playing a key role in the Bursar’s office and management of the College’s estate and housing provision. She was much loved by her many friends and colleagues, for whom her diagnosis with ovarian cancer in 2020 came as a shock. Her untimely death in 2022 made clear to her loved ones the importance of research into the early detection, diagnosis, and treatment of this cancer.

The Margit Pengelly Scholarship will serve as a much-needed source of support for this crucial research, providing a supplementary annual stipend to one research student for a three-year period in the first instance.
