Major General Christopher Ghika has just finished a year as the Deputy Commander of the counter ISIS campaign in the Middle East. It is his second tour in this role, having been in Baghdad during the early days of the ISIS rising in 2014/5. He will give an overview of the campaign and how it has changed over time followed by drawing out the main features of the operation and what lessons and guidance diplomats, statesmen and leaders may take from the experience.

Major General Ghika was commissioned into the Irish Guards in 1993. Since then he has served in variety of operational roles in Northern Ireland, Kosovo, the civil war in Sierra Leone, once in Afghanistan and three times in Iraq. He has also completed tours on the operations staff in the Ministry of Defence, the Army’s Headquarters and has been the Deputy Commander of a US Infantry Division of 20 000 soldiers. He is currently the General Officer Commanding London District. All members of the University are welcome.
