The film, entitled ‘Multiculturalism', showcases the diversity of the student population at Wolfson, featuring a series of talking heads with Wolfsonians filmed around the College, each speaking in their native language. The film appears on the Guardian longlist of films for the Very Short Film competition, where it is described as an exploration into the importance of social anthropology in the global village.

Guardian Students and Oxford University Press invited students up and down the country to submit 60-second films showcasing a subject that they love. In the spirit of OUP's famed Very Short Introductions books, the challenge was to 'explain and inspire' concisely.

The filmmaker, Garlen Lo, who participated in the College telethon team that recently raised over £50,000 for Wolfson scholarships, said that he made the film to “teach, engage and inspire”. Garlen overcame the challenge of filming Wolfsonians speaking in ten different languages, explaining that, “the great thing about Wolfson is we are so diverse that, as a social anthropologist interested in culture and cultural mixing, I can just go into the bar and I am never starved of interesting conversation.”

Voting is now open to the general public on the twelve longlisted videos, and the four students whose videos receive the most votes will be invited to the Guardian for the live final and the chance to win £9,000 towards their tuition fees.
