Philip Pullman will be conversing with Michael Nielsen, quantum physicist, science writer, and computer programming researcher. The topic is whether and how creativity is fuelled by fantasies in all sorts of different intellectual endeavours. Nielsen will be representing the point of view of science, whilst Pullman will speak for that of the humanities.

The event occurs in the context of the "Wolfson Frontiers Quantum Hub", a project within the Wolfson Quantum Cluster to create a new interdisciplinary research space at Wolfson College. Here, researchers from different camps of science can develop studies in more foundational, exploratory and risky directions than in conventional university departments.

The conversation is intended to embody the spirit of intellectual freedom that fuels the Frontiers Hub and Wolfson College more generally, and to inspire the audience by providing a reflection on the beauty of creative endeavours such as science and literature.

One of the organisers of the event is Chiara Marletto, Junior Research Fellow at Wolfson College. The event is sponsored by the Eutopia Foundation.
