Dr Matthew C Levy, Royal Society Isaac Newton Fellow and Junior Research Fellow of Wolfson College, has been invited to spend the week of 23 November in Parliament to work with Nicola Blackwood, Chairperson of the Science & Technology Select Committee and MP of Oxford West and Abingdon. The timing of Dr Levy's meeting is particularly significant as it coincides with the release of the 2015 Comprehensive Spending Review.

In Westminster, Dr Levy will discuss the productive roles science can play in supporting policy decisions, the operation of the scientific enterprise in the UK, and how to enhance scientific ties between the UK and US, his country of birth. This event takes place under the auspices of the Royal Society and continues Matthew's active engagement with the UK and US governments as part of his role as a Newton Fellow.

In June, Dr Levy was the youngest scientist invited to present research to the US Department of Energy at the "Frontiers of Plasma Science" Workshop in Washington, DC, an event held once every 10 years. Early next year, Nicola Blackwood MP will visit University of Oxford in turn in order to learn about Dr Levy's research using high-power lasers and the scientific enterprises undertaken at the University.
