Sir Vince, Business Minister in the previous government, likened the UK economy to a patient up and walking after a heart attack (the financial crisis) but still on life support (extraordinarily low interest rates). College members and others in the audience asked questions after the presentation. When asked about the impact of leaving the EU, he noted that the current uncertainty generated by the Brexit debate would become much worse if we lost full access to the single market. British manufacturing and trade deals with countries like China and Japan could all be affected.

In the podcast you can also hear Sir Vince discuss future interest rates, the background to the current steel manufacturing crisis in the UK and more: Podcast now available

The event was organised by Professor Anne Deighton and Dr Oscar Dahlsten.
