The Royal Society's fundamental purpose is to recognise, promote, and support excellence in science and to encourage the development and use of science for the benefit of humanity. The Society has played a part in some of the most fundamental, significant, and life-changing discoveries in scientific history and Royal Society scientists continue to make outstanding contributions to science in many research areas.

Rushworth, Watts Professor of Experimental Psychology, said: "Every day we make multiple choices about the best course of action to take in a variety of situations. My research is aimed at understanding the brain processes that allow us to work out how good the outcome of a choice might be and which allow us to make decisions between multiple choices."

Fifty-one eminent scientists have become Fellows of the Royal Society, this year, as well as ten new Foreign Members and one Honorary Fellow for their exceptional contributions to science. Learn more
