Professor Armitage is a noted prose writer, translator, documentary maker and broadcaster, as well as one of the country's most popular and admired poets; his travel writing and memoirs include Walking Home: a Poet's Journey, on walking the Pennine way, its sequel Walking Away, on walking the South West Coast routes, Stanza Stones, on the poems of his that have been carved into the Yorkshire moors, and All Points North, a remembering and celebration of 25 literary years. 

Professor Armitage's talk is the day before the termly Professor of Poetry lecture in the Examination Schools.
