Gillian is taking over the post from Professor Andrew Neil, who is stepping down after three highly successful years. We caught up with Gillian to find out a little more about her and her ideas for the future.

Tell me a little about your background.
"
After completing undergraduate study at Newcastle University, and postgraduate work at Lady Margaret Hall (in Ancient History), I worked in web design and publishing before returning to Oxford University as a staff member. My most recent role was that of College Registrar at Oriel College."

Why did you decide to move to Wolfson? Was there anything in particular that drew you to the College?
"
When I first saw the position advertised I came to one of the evening lectures held at the College and was struck by the rich and varied calendar of events that take place at Wolfson. This gave me a sense of the strong egalitarian community that exists in the College, particularly among the postgraduate students. It was this, along with the challenges of the role, which drew me to Wolfson."

What have your initial impressions of Wolfson been?
"
I have had a very warm welcome over my first few days. Wolfson has wonderful buildings in a beautiful setting, and I have been struck by the peace and quiet that its location offers."

What are your plans for the future of the Academic Office and Wolfson's students?
"
I plan to build on Andrew's fantastic legacy by continuing to increase the amount of financial support that we offer to students. I would like to continue to raise the profile of Wolfson in Oxford, increasing the number of applicants, and making it the first choice for the best graduate students from around the world."

Outside of work, what are your other interests?
"
Music is a great passion of mine (especially singing), I am also a knitter, and a regular runner."

Do you have any final messages for current or prospective students?
"
My door is always open, so please feel to drop in if you have any questions, or drop me an email."
