Wolfson appoints new Geoffrey Garton Creative Arts Fellow

Wolfson College is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Charlie Lee-Potter as the new Geoffrey Garton Creative Arts Fellow.

An award-winning writer, poet and artist, Charlie’s interdisciplinary creative practice spans literature, visual art, broadcasting and performance. A former BBC foreign correspondent and documentary maker, she has also presented several of BBC Radio 4’s flagship programmes, including PM, The World at One, The World Tonight and Open Book.

Charlie’s work has received recognition across multiple fields. She is the recipient of the International Créateurs Prize for Creative Journalism and the Printmakers Council Art Prize, while her podcast exploring the creative imagination, Inside A Mountain, was shortlisted for the International Women’s Podcast Awards.

Holding doctorates in both English Literature and Fine Art, Charlie is currently a lecturer in English at Hertford College. Her creative work is notable for its exploration of the relationship between language, materiality and artistic form. Her most recent poetry collection, A Line is a Breathless Length, was written during her residency at Wytham Woods, and is now on display at Wolfson until 4 October 2026. The exhibition exemplifies her experimental approach, using materials including laser-etched milk paper, manipulated biomaterials, fresco and crocheted paper to transform poems into textual and textural objects. She also presents poetry through live orchestral performance, extending the possibilities of poetic expression beyond the page.

The Geoffrey Garton Creative Arts Fellowship reflects Wolfson’s commitment to fostering creativity across disciplines and supporting artists whose work challenges conventional boundaries. With her varied career bridging literature, visual art, journalism and public engagement, Charlie’s appointment continues this tradition.

We warmly welcome Charlie to Wolfson.
