Professor of Development Economics

Professor Stefan Dercon holds the Chair in Development Economics at the Department of International Development. His work questions why some people get richer while others stay poor in impoverished communities mainly in Africa.

 

Dercon's research uses detailed data on households and individuals based on longitudinal data, and as well as from field experiments. He is currently involved in research projects in Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, India, Vietnam and Peru.
