Biography
Dr. Frederick Murunga Wekesah is a Research Scientist with the African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) in Nairobi, Kenya. He is a Bernard Lown Scholar in the Cardiovascular Health Program at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health at Harvard University in the USA, as well as an AfOx Visiting Scholar (25/26).
He specializes in chronic disease epidemiology, focusing on mental health and neurological disorders in children and adolescents. His previous work includes examining the relationship between sugar-sweetened beverages, unhealthy foods, and childhood malnutrition.
Frederick has extensive research experience that encompasses all stages of the research process, from conceptualization to evaluation and the publication of scientific findings for dissemination. He designs and implements scoping and systematic reviews, clinical and randomized controlled trials, implementation research, and surveys. He employs mixed research methods in his research. Frederick is a co-investigator on various research projects and has contributed to numerous publications in international peer-reviewed journals.
Frederick earned his PhD in Epidemiology from the University Medical Center Utrecht at Utrecht University in the Netherlands in 2019. He also holds a Master of Science degree in Population-based Field Epidemiology from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa (2010).
