Alan Berman currently acts as consultant to Berman Guedes Stretton Architects and carries out projects and consultancy in his own right under the banner Studio Berman. Since moving to Oxford in 1988 Berman has concentrated on collegiate work but his wide experience includes multi-million pound new-buildings, small historic restorations, social housing, animal hospitals, theme parks and schools. He was design leader on the Leonard Wolfson Auditorium, the new Academic Wing and new residential blocks at Wolfson College.
Berman’s extensive knowledge of architectural history has earned the respect of planning authorities, the 20th Century Society and English Heritage. An accredited CABE advisor he has been appointed Architectural Advisor to a number of Oxford Colleges. He is also an Associate Fellow at Green Templeton College. Berman has written for architectural journals and published several books on design and architecture, most notably Jim Stirling and the Red Trilogy (2010). In addition to his consultancy work he lectures and teaches in Oxford and at the University of Liverpool.
