Adnan Naseemullah is Professor of Comparative and South Asian Politics at the Oxford School of Global and Area Studies and Governing Body Fellow at Wolfson College. He works in three broad areas: the political economy of national development, the intersection between state formation and political violence, and the politics of populism. He has published three books: Development after Statism (Cambridge 2017), Patchwork States (Cambridge 2022) and Righteous Demagogues (with Pradeep Chhibber, Oxford 2024). He is currently working on research that explores the multiple meanings of democracy and on political violence in the context of domination and subordination.
