Wolfson student clinches Early Career Researcher Award
We were delighted to hear that Wolfson student Alfred Lo was recently announced as the winner of the 2024 Early Career Researcher Award by System, a prestigious language and linguistics journal.
Alfred’s paper, “The educational affordances and challenges of generative AI in Global Englishes-oriented materials development and implementation: A critical ecological perspective”, offers a timely and theoretically rich analysis of how generative AI is reshaping the design and classroom use of Global Englishes-informed ELT materials. Framed through a critical ecological lens, the paper highlights how teacher agency, socio-material constraints, and ideological tensions shape the implementation of AI-assisted innovations in diverse classroom contexts.
The award committee commended the paper for its conceptual originality, empirical grounding, and clear implications for future pedagogy and policy in the evolving AI-mediated language education environment.
Our congratulations to Alfred!
