Wolfsonians feature in new Bodleian exhibition

The Bodleian Libraries have unveiled Catalysts, a new portrait series celebrating Oxford University’s leading innovators whose work is reshaping health, society, and the environment worldwide. The new photography campaign was launched in late 2025 in collaboration with the British Journal of Photography.

Among the 19 sitters for the series are Wolfson GBF Professor Alain George and Wolfson alumna Dr Anne Makena, Founding Member of AfOx, who features alongside her co-Director Professor Kevin Marsh in a portrait by Francis Augusto. The diptych of Alain George was taken by Alys Tomlinson, who also took a stunning portrait of Professor Rachel Upthegrove in Wolfson’s grounds.

The Catalysts initiative will add 19 photographic portraits to the Bodleian’s permanent collection, expanding and diversifying its historic iconography while capturing the breadth and real-world impact of Oxford’s research. For more details click here.
