Wolfson alumnus elected to California State Assembly
We were delighted to hear of the recent election of Wolfson Alum, John Harabedian (MSc Comparative Social Policy, 2005) to the California State Assembly.
John began his tenure as Assemblymember for California’s 41st District in December 2024. Originating from the District himself, Harabedian was previously a City Councilmember and two-term Mayor of Sierra Madre, during which time he spearheaded efforts to advance renewable energy, conserve natural resources, and improve municipal services. He also served as a founding board member of the Clean Power Alliance, leading the charge for sustainable energy solutions in the region.
Harabedian has worked as a prosecutor for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office and as an advocate for immigrant rights and social justice. He is committed to advancing legislative priorities that uphold California’s values, including addressing homelessness, tackling climate change, safeguarding democracy, protecting reproductive rights, and preventing gun violence.
Our congratulations to Assemblymember Harabedian – it is a tremendous honour to see members of the Wolfson community in public service, both in the US and around the world.
