The Art of Cells – Wolfson student secures journal cover

Our congratulations to Jason Tong (GS 2023 – ) whose paper was published in the latest issue of ‘Cell Metabolism’. Jason and his team commissioned artist Sofia Ahola to produce a stunning image, inspired by the Graphical Abstract included with the paper, which was selected by the journal for the cover.

A scientific diagram shows a large magenta-colored alpha cell in contact with a signal-sensing, lilac-green beta cell. This signaling beta cell is indicated to then pass on the message to several other smaller green beta cells

The paper evidences that ‘pancreatic alpha cells modulate beta cell function via enriched nanodomains of GLP-1 receptor in the nearest beta cell surface that are more secretory than the more distant beta cells‘. The image shows the large magenta-colored alpha cell in contact with the signal-sensing, lilac-green beta cell. The signaling beta cell then passes on the message to the other smaller green beta cells.
