Dr Jaskiran Bhogal Completes Visiting Fellowship in Singapore

Wolfson’s Guru Nanak Stipendiary Research Fellow, Dr Jaskiran Bhogal, has recently returned from her tenure as Visiting Chair in Sikh Studies at the National University of Singapore (NUS).

Dr Bhogal is an anthropologist and educator whose work explores the Sikh diaspora and how diasporic communities shape their sense of belonging, heritage, and sociopolitical positioning. During her time at NUS, she engaged in vibrant academic exchange and cross-cultural dialogue.

Reflecting on her experience, Dr Bhogal said:

“My work there deepened the understanding of Sikh philosophy, history, and contemporary issues within a global context. Alongside teaching and interdisciplinary collaboration, I actively engaged with Singapore’s Sikh community through public lectures, discussions and cultural events. This experience directly complemented and enhanced my research as the Guru Nanak Junior Research Fellow at Oxford, broadening the comparative and transnational dimensions of my work on Sikh identity, diaspora and modernity. It provided invaluable perspectives that continue to inform my scholarship and teaching in Sikh studies.”

Her time in Singapore has further enriched her ongoing research and strengthened the College’s international academic links.
