‘Brain Communications’: a cover story for Wolfson RF
Wolfson Research Fellow Dr Ruxandra Dafinca was delighted to discover that her paper published in ‘Brain Communications’ (Issue 6) had been selected for the journal’s front cover.
Dr Dafinca’s study into the link between mitochondrial dysfunction and the onset and progression of Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is available to read here.
The striking image from the cover represents a motor neuron differentiated from the induced pluripotent stem cells of a patient with ALS. The neuron was transduced with a virus that expresses green fluorescent protein and this system was used to show that expressing a dynactin-1-GFP rescues mitochondrial transport defects associated with motor neuron degeneration in ALS.
