Frances Gardner

Professor of Child and Family Psychology; Reader in Child and Family Psychology

College position:

Professor Frances Gardner's research focuses on development and prevention of antisocial behaviour or conduct problems in young people. She conducts randomised trials and systematic reviews of parenting interventions for conduct problems, including trials in the voluntary sector in Oxford, the North Wales Sure Start trial, and the NIH-funded ‘Early Steps’ trial in the US.

In addition, Gardner conducts longitudinal studies of the early development of antisocial behaviour, and other mental health problems in youth. These include two large longitudinal studies of risk and resilience factors for mental health in AIDS-affected children in South Africa. I use UK cohort data to assess how parenting and antisocial behaviour have changed over recent decades.
