Oxford Conservation Volunteers – a charity enabling people to carry out local wildlife conservation projects – will return to Wolfson on Sunday 18th January (starting 9.45am), as part of a long term plan to restore Wolfson’s ancient floodplain meadows. This plan has been commissioned by the college (Grounds Sub Committee) with advice from Wolfson’s very own ecological experts and is happening in stages over a number of years. This winter we’re focusing on cutting back scrub on our meadows to help restore the original hedge boundaries, allowing meadow wildflowers to recover. Floodplain meadows are important for biodiversity, carbon capture, flood mitigation and improving water quality.
If you’re interested in taking part, please note:
• Wolfson’s meadows are just over the bridge behind B Block. No skills or knowledge are required, all help is appreciated.
• If you have any questions about the day, please email: secretary@ocv.org.uk
• Be aware that the ground will be very wet and muddy so please bring appropriate footwear and clothes (wellies are available from OCV on request). Tea/coffee and biscuits are provided.
• You will be volunteering under Oxford Conservation Volunteers‘ guidance, health & safety policy and insurance.
