Ancient Lydia in western Anatolia features prominently in Classical sources, whereas only a small number of Lydian language text items – mainly stone inscriptions – are preserved. Additionally, this small corpus continues to be not well understood and is in urgent need of revision. With reference to current research at Oxford and elsewhere, this talk aims to show how a change of perspective and different source material can help to challenge the dominant narrative, illuminating a local Lydian rather than an external voice.

Members of the Cluster are invited to the reserved AWRC lunch table in Hall starting at 12.30 to meet Annick. Annick’s talk in the Levett Room at 1:15 will be catered with cake and tea/coffee (all welcome).
