A recently discovered Latin inscription on a Roman ceramic vessel from Nauportus opens an intriguing window onto literacy, ownership, and everyday writing in the early Roman period. Written in Old Roman cursive, the text appears at first sight to belong to a familiar type of possessor inscription known across the Roman world, yet one part of it resists straightforward interpretation. This lecture will present the find, place it in its epigraphic and archaeological context, and explore several possible readings, each with different implications for language, object use, and cultural contact.

The AWRC have reserved a lunch table in hall for Cluster members where you will have a chance to meet with Luka over lunch. The talk at 1.15 pm in the Buttery will be catered with coffee/tea and cakes (all welcome).
