Wolfson has set a target to raise £275,000 to provide exceptional hardship support for students in need as a result of the coronavirus crisis today, next academic year, and in the years to come.

While the College currently has numerous ways of supporting its residents with basic needs, our students are encountering financial hardship on a scale never seen before.

With the Student Hardship Appeal, the College wants to ensure that no Wolfson student is forced to give up their studies for want of means.The generosity of Wolfson's alumni and friends will have a direct and meaningful impact on students in financial distress. Every pound raised will go directly to supporting them.

About the Appeal

What is the Student Hardship Appeal?

Wolfson launched the Student Hardship Appeal in April 2020 with a target of raising £100,000, to ensure that we have additional funds available to support students facing financial difficulty because of the coronavirus crisis.

Thanks to Wolfsonians' outstanding generosity, we have raised more than double our initial target. We have set a new goal of reaching £275,000 to meet acute hardship needs today, next academic year, and in the years to come. We have made the first grants: students are already feeling the benefits of Wolfsonians' generosity. 

While the College itself is well-placed to weather the current crisis financially, our students are encountering financial hardship on a scale never seen before. Students have lost valuable research time through lab and library closures and will therefore take longer to finish their doctorates. Some face being unable to complete their research entirely. Others have been plunged into financial hardship when they or their partner have lost part-time jobs, on which they depend to sustain their studies and their families.

 

 

How can I donate to the Student Hardship Appeal?

There are a number of ways to donate to the Student Hardship Appeal. We have listed below the best ways:

Online Giving

Our recommended method, you can donate directly to the Student Hardship Appeal here.You can set up regular online giving, or make a single gift with credit or debit card.

If you are in the USA, the most tax efficient way to donate online is through Americans for Oxford. To direct your donation to the Student Hardship Appeal select Wolfson College from the drop-down menu and specify it is for the Student Hardship Appeal in the further information box.

If you would like to donate by direct bank transfer please contact the Wolfson Alumni Office and we will provide you with the details.

Giving by Cheque

How can I make my gift tax efficient?

Depending on where you live and whether or not you are a taxpayer, there are several ways you can increase the value of your gift to the College.

UK taxpayers

To increase the value of your gift by 25% you can add Gift Aid to your donation, courtesy of HM Customs and Revenue. If you donate online, you will be given the option to add Gift Aid; if you are donating another way, please download the Gift form here and email it to alumni.office@wolfson.ox.ac.uk. Higher rate tax payers will be eligible for a further deduction from their taxes.

USA taxpayers

Please send a cheque to Americans for Oxford, 500 Fifth Avenue, 32nd Floor, New York, NY, 10110. Americans for Oxford is the university's 501(c) 3 charitable organisation in the US. Please include clear instructions that your donation is for Wolfson College (include postal address: Linton Road, Oxford, OX2 6UD). You may also use the online giving method offered by Americans for Oxford.

Continental European Residents

Tax efficient giving is available through the Transnational Giving Europe Scheme. For more information go here.

Canadian taxpayers
