Zaad Mahmood joins ODID as a Departmental Lecturer for the year 2017-18 on a sabbatical from Presidency University, India. In Presidency University he is an Assistant Professor in Political Science. After completing his Masters in Political Science from Calcutta University Mahmood went directly into teaching. Mahmood's first academic position was in the Department of Political Science at S.A. Jaipuria College, Calcutta University where he taught from 2006 to 2012. In 2008, he went to SOAS, University of London to pursue doctoral research on study leave with a scholarship from Felix Foundation. At SOAS, Mahmood worked on political economy of reforms under Professor Lawrence Saez. Mahmood returned to rejoin his service at S.A.Jaipuria College in 2011 and thereafter joined Presidency University in 2012.

Mahmood's research focuses on political economy of reforms, public policy, labour issues, elections and politics in India.
