Tim Viney

Investigator Scientist

College position:

PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Basel (Friedrich Miescher Institute International PhD Programme, 2005-2010), studied neural circuits of the mammalian retina. MRC Career Development Fellow and Investigator Scientist at the MRC Anatomical Neuropharmacology Unit, Oxford (2010-2015), investigated how local circuit neurons of the rodent hippocampus contribute to oscillatory activity relating to memory, and how subcortical projections affect rhythmic activity in the cerebral cortex. Currently an Investigator Scientist in the Department of Pharmacology, Oxford, investigating how the expression of pathological tau proteins (which define many neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and fronto-temporal dementia) affects behaviour, memory, and neuronal activity. Funding sources: Medical Research Council, Alzheimer's Society, Oxford John Fell Fund, and Oxford Medical Sciences Division.
