Winner of Paths towards Sustainability at Wolfson Announced

What makes the beauty of our green surroundings? And how can we sustain it? What would we like to save in Wolfson College? 

The Wolfson Green Team and Wolfson’s Earth Emergency Cluster put together a competition so we can think creatively about these and related questions, to gather opinions, dreams, and ideas from as many people as possible. The best submission was awarded with a £100 prize. Wolfson student Wahid Khan (pen name: Zeerak) won the prize for his poem and song on "paths towards sustainability". The original is written in an indigenous Khowar language, spoken in the far north and north west of Pakistan.

English Translation

Wolfson College amazes me oh dear yes it does
The greenery of the lawns is spread everywhere, yes it does

 Everything is being recycled
No food is being wasted
Nothing is thrown away oh dear nothing does

 Plastics are separated to be recycled
Separate bins are placed for papers to be recycled
This is how Wolfson owns the beautiful earth

The college is touched by a beautiful canal
Ducks and birds are seen around it
A goose flies over it, yes it does

We have to keep the water clean
And bring back many gone water birds
We shall aim to bring even curlew back

Zeerak has this suggestion
All the buildings shall be heated by electricity
Cuz everyone is going for clean energy now

Wolfson shall ban non-recyclable utensils
Recyclable utensils shall be given to the members
And the building shall be adopted for better in-built environment
