Pamela Clemit has been a Supernumerary Fellow at Wolfson since 2016, having been introduced as a Member of Common Room in 2007. Election to a Fellowship of the Royal Historical Society is an uncommon distinction for a Professor of English.

Professor Clemit works at the intersection of literature and history. The philosophical anarchist William Godwin (1756-1836) is at the centre of her current work. Her principal research project is The Letters of William Godwin, which is being published by Oxford University Press in six volumes. Two volumes have appeared so far, in 2011 and 2014 respectively, and have attracted uniformly stellar reviews from historians as well as literary scholars

The Royal Historical Society was founded and received its royal charter in 1868. It exists to promote historical research worldwide, and to represent historians engaged in professional research and presenting history in the public domain.
