Oxford University Boat Club has appointed Wolfson DPhil student Felix Drinkall as Stroke for the upcoming Gemini Boat Race.

The Gemini Boat Race takes place on Sunday 26th March and will be the 168th race for the men and the 77th for the women’s team.

Oxford University Boat Club has recently announced who will appear in their boat for the race and Wolfson Dphil Felix Drinkall is to hold the revered position of Stroke. As the rower seated closest to the stern of the boat, it’s the stroke’s job to set the rhythm of the row and to lead the rest of their teammates.

When asked how he felt about this important role, Felix commented: "It is a true honour to represent Oxford in any capacity, but to win the Boat Race for Oxford would be the culmination of a lifelong dream which I, along with the rest of the crew, will aim to realise next week. Thank you everyone for the incredible support to enable me to compete at my best against Cambridge."

The Boat Race was first raced by crews from Oxford and Cambridge University in 1829 and is now one of the world’s oldest and most famous amateur sporting events, offering an unrivalled experience to the student athletes who take part. The race takes place in London on the famous Championship Course that stretches over 4.25 miles of tidal Thames in West London between Putney and Mortlake.

The Boat Race will be aired live on BBC 1, BBC Sport Live and BBC iPlayer from 3.30–6pm on Sunday 26 March. To find out more about the race please visit their website here
