Former Wolfson Fellow appointed Officer in the Order of Canada

John Challis (Junior Research Fellow 1975-6) has been appointed Officer in the Order of Canada for his seminal contributions to the fields of obstetrics and gynaecology and to health research and innovation in Canada and abroad.

John is currently University Professor Emeritus at the University of Toronto, having served as the Ernest B and Leonard B Smith Professor and Chair of the Department of Physiology, and later as Vice President Research and Associate Provost of the University. More recently, he served as pro-Vice Chancellor for medical research at the University of Western Australia and was founding Executive Director of the WA Health Translation Network.

Officers of the Order of Canada have demonstrated an outstanding level of talent and service to Canadians, and up to 64 people get appointed each year.
