Congratulations to Emeritus Fellow Professor Jim Mann, who received this high honour from the Governor General of New Zealand earlier this year.

Her Excellency The Right Honourable Dame Cindy Kiro, Governor-General of New Zealand, bestowed the honour of KNZM (Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit) to Professor Jim Mann, Wolfson Emeritus Fellow (JRF 1973-76, RF 1976-78, GBF 1978-88), at an investiture ceremony at New Zealand Government House in May, as part of the 2022 New Year Honours List.

The award follows a CNZM (New Zealand Order of Merit) in 2002 and recognises his decades of work demonstrating links between nutrition and health which have informed world-leading interventions in the fields of coronary heart disease and diabetes.

Born in South Africa, Professor Mann received his medical education, early clinical experience and introduction to research there and in England. His first and only substantive appointment before he and his family migrated to New Zealand was as a lecturer at the University of Oxford and honorary physician at the Radcliffe Infirmary.
