The talk, initially advertised to be held by Dr Paul Roberts, was instead given by Ilaria Perzia. She is the assistant exhibition curator and Administrator for the Department of Antiquities. Ilaria grew up in Tuscany and her family made olive oil and pickles, so this exhibition was close to her heart.

Last Supper in Pompeii was inspired by the recent blockbuster exhibition at the Ashmolean Museum, which Dr Roberts curated together with Ilaria Perzia. Combining masterpieces of Roman art with cutting edge archaeological research, the talk looked at the Roman passion for food and wine. It was received very well; guests remarked that it was a wonderful event, and that the enthusiasm and in-depth knowledge of the speaker brought the story to life.
