Wolfson congratulates Aamer Sarfraz on his appointment by The Queen as a member of the House of Lords. The British-Pakistani businessman and philanthropist will take the title Lord Sarfraz of Kensington.

Lord Sarfraz has been a Member of Wolfson’s Strategy Group and since 2014 has supported Wolfson’s annual Sarfraz Pakistan Lecture. One of the highlights of the College’s year, the lecture has been given by distinguished scholars, journalists and cultural commentators with expertise on Pakistan. Past speakers include Mehmood Khan Achakzai, Christophe Jaffrelot, and William Dalrymple, and the 2019 lecture was given by the double Oscar-winning filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.

The 2020 Sarfraz Lecture will be given on 12 October by the eminent sociologist and human rights activist Farida Shaheed.

Lord Sarfraz has been Treasurer of the Conservative Party and has served as an advisor to the party leadership on community outreach. He said, “I am very grateful to Prime Minister Boris Johnson for giving me the opportunity to serve in the House of Lords. As we come out of the coronavirus crisis, there is tremendous work to be done. I look forward to supporting the Prime Minister’s agenda and vision.”
