Dr. Michael Chappell's research specializes in Biomedical Engineering, which in turn crosses many engineering disciplines and applies them in medicine. In particular, he works with medical imaging data attempting to measure clinically important information like blood flow or pH at high resolutions in diseases such as stroke. 

He is the Series Editor for the Oxford Neuroimaging primers - a set of short, accessible textbooks focused on MRI-based neuroimaging research, published by the Oxford University Press, and wrote Physiology for Engineers. Applying Engineering Methods to Physiological Systemsan introduction to qualitative and quantitative aspects of human physiology using mathematical principles and engineering methods that will be familiar to engineeres and other physical scientists.
