Matthew McCartney

University Lecturer in the Political Economy and Human Development of India

College position:

Dr Matthew McCartney is a University Lecturer in the Political Economy and Human Development of India, School of Interdisciplinary and Area Studies (SIAS). He has studied economics throughout my academic career, BA King's College, Cambridge; MPHil Keble College, Oxford; PhD SOAS, University of London. Between 2002 and 2011, he was a Lecturer in Economics (South Asia) at SOAS. 

McCartney's research interests include, the growth and development of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka since independence; the state and late industrialisation; political economy; institutions, geography, history, openness and culture as fundamental determinants of economic growth; comparative economic growth in Africa and Asia.
