Professor of Visual Anthropology
Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology

College position:

As a visual anthropologist Professor Marcus Banks's research focuses on the creation, circulation, and consumption of images in society, and what such images tell us about society and the nature of social relations.

Banks conducts most of his research in or in connection to India, particularly north-west India, though he has also conducted ethnographic research with Indian migrants in the UK. Banks's last research project looked at ideas of nationalism in film shot in India in the colonial period.
