Lorne Thyssen Scholarship

Wolfson College offers a fully-funded graduate scholarship for a DPhil in an area of Ancient World Studies.

Applications are invited every three years from suitably qualified graduates who are applying for entry to a DPhil programme in October of the relevant year in one the following areas: Classical Languages and Literature, Ancient History, Classical Philology, Oriental Studies (ancient areas) or Archaeology. The Scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic merit and potential.

The Scholarship is open to applicants who are ordinarily resident in the EEA or Switzerland and covers their full costs for the relevant period of fee liability, including the University composition fee, the College fee, and maintenance costs at the current UK Research Council rate. The successful scholar becomes a member of Wolfson College.

The Lorne Thyssen Scholarship is awarded by the Ancient World Cluster at Wolfson College.

The Lorne Thyssen Scholar from 2018-2021 is Greg Thompson, pursuing the degree of DPhil in Ancient History with the thesis The Coinage and Economy of Boeotia in the Classical Period.
