Last Supper in Pompeii' is inspired by the recent blockbuster exhibition at the Ashmolean Museum, which Dr Roberts curated. Combining masterpieces of Roman art with cutting edge archaeological research, the talk looks at the Roman passion for food and wine. We embark on a journey from pre-Roman Italy to far-flung Britannia, but focus on the Bay of Naples in the Roman Empire, from the vine-covered slopes of Vesuvius to Pompeii's bustling shops and bars, dining rooms with exquisite Greek- style decor, the kitchens and yes, even the toilets.
Dress Code: Formal for gentlemen, (closed collar, tie and jacket), with corresponding formality for ladies. Anyone wearing jeans, leather jackets etc will not be allowed access.
The House of Lords have asked that guests arrive from 18.30, at the Black Rod’s Entrance. Please ensure you bring some form of ID as you will need to show this on arrival.
