Global Lives and Local Perspectives: New Approaches to Tibetan Life Writing is a workshop aimed at examining Tibet’s rich tradition of biographical writing as documented in Tibetan narrative, poetic, legal, and religious literature. Particular attention will be devoted to journals, memoirs, letters, oral testimonies, personal accounts, and ritual inscriptions as expressions of the relationship between the individual and the society, the local and the global, the past and the present, the public and the private. Issues such as instances of literary theory and cross-cultural influences will be addressed and the discussion pushed further by taking into consideration questions of identity construction, power relationships, and history-making processes in various forms of biographical writing, including but not restricted to rnam thar. The event is free of charge and lunch will be provided, but places are limited and registration essential. Please email lifewriting.wolfson@gmail.com.
